My daughter Erica and I don’t talk to each other very much during the day. Seriously. We’re both working at breakneck speed so most of the time we limit our communication to Twitter, Facebook, and email. When we do talk, it’s short and very sweet. A city block bordered by Edward, Elm, Chestnut and Elizabeth streets will soon be home to a new $80 million supportive housing development and resource complex. The YWCA Elm Centre, featuring 300 permanent affordable apartments for women in need and their families, will also house several public venues including a 200-seat auditorium, meeting rooms, retail space, a restaurant, and the headquarters for YWCA Toronto and YWCA Canada.

On May 5, 2009 Elmwood Spa hosted an evening of gathering, celebration and giving to recognize the work of renowned Canadian contemporary artist Charles Pachter and to build awareness and raise funds for the YWCA Elm Centre, the YWCA’s new $80 million supportive housing development, including Irma Brydson Place. The event raised over $84,600 for the YWCA Elm Centre.
