Copper Thunderbird: The Art of Norval Morrisseau
For Immediate Release
Toronto, ON — Elmwood Spa is proud to announce ‘Copper Thunderbird – The Art of Norval Morrisseau,’ an exhibition of a private collection of over 40 paintings never before exhibited publicly together. The exhibition provides an overview of this Canadian national treasure’s work, spanning over four decades, and including a number of his masterpieces.
Copper Thunderbird: The Art of Norval Morrisseau will be available for viewing by spa guests and by appointment from January 27 to September 30, 2010. Those wishing to schedule an appointment to view the Copper Thunderbird exhibition are encouraged to call Dominique Giliberti at 416-323-4275 or email email@example.com
If in the future, a single artist will represent a time, a people, and an artistic movement, it will be Norval Morrisseau, Copper Thunderbird. Just as the Group of Seven exemplifies a time and spirit of Canada in the early 20th century, native art – and particularly the Woodland School – will stand for the late 20th and early 21st century.
The Copper Thunderbird exhibition at Elmwood Spa supports the YWCA Elm Centre, which will provide 300 new affordable and supportive homes for single women, women-led families and Aboriginal families in 2011. Financial and philosophical support of this project is of critical importance and will have a significant impact on the lives and futures of those who will make their homes at the YWCA Elm Centre. Donations are welcome.
Elmwood Spa houses a small permanent collection of Canadian, American and Thai artists, believing that art is an important part of the relaxation experience. Copper Thunderbird follows exhibitions of paintings by artists Catharine Somerville in 2008 and Charles Pachter in 2009. Spa guests are encouraged to contemplate the beauty of the art as they attend to their physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
With more space than any other day spa in the region, Elmwood Spa is a complete wellness destination that caters to women and men who want stress relief and relaxation in a serene atmosphere. It is an ideal place to gather with friends, to celebrate milestones, to reconnect with a loved one, or to use as one’s own destination for stress relief and self-renewal.
