Homage: By Donald Stuart

Homage, by Canadian artist Donald A. Stuart, CM, OOnt, RCA, features exquisitely crafted necklaces inspired by outstanding historic and contemporary Canadian women in fields ranging from the arts to politics to science and sports including Karen Kain, Margaret Atwood, Measha Brueggergosman, Catriona Le May Doan, Laura Secord and Mary Pickford. A brief biography of the women honoured and a portrait illustration by exhibition curator, Susan Benson, RCA, accompanies each art piece.

Elmwood Spa is proud to be hosting Copper Thunderbird – The Art of Norval Morrisseau, an exhibition of a private collection of over 40 paintings never before exhibited publicly together. The exhibition provides an overview of this Canadian national treasure’s work, spanning over four decades of artwork, and including a number of his masterpieces.

Mythologies: An exhibition of paintings by Charles Pachter

On May 5, 2009 Elmwood Spa hosted an evening of gathering, celebration and giving to recognize the work of renowned Canadian contemporary artist Charles Pachter and to build awareness and raise funds for the YWCA Elm Centre, the YWCA’s new $80 million supportive housing development, including Irma Brydson Place. The event raised over $84,600 for the YWCA Elm Centre.

Catharine Somerville is a Canadian born artist who has spent her painting career travelling between Canada, the United Kingdom, the Caribbean and Mexico. Somerville’s most recent series is inspired by her time at Las Pozas – a surrealist sculpture park situated deep within central Mexico’s forests.
